Is a Day + Night Session Right for My Family?
You Might Want A Day + Night Family Photo Session Session If…
1.You like the idea of a full day of coverage, but know your family might not make it that long.
A day + night session is more than just your typical family photoshoot; it's an opportunity to capture the feeling of your entire day and tell your unique story through the medium of family photography but without overwhelming your loved ones. This is achieved by splitting a longer session into two parts; your “day” portion and your “night” portion. That break between sessions may be the key to keeping your family happy and content to experience the extra eyes on scene during your typical day’s activities.
2. You really value your home life and the memories being created each and every day within those walls.
When you choose a day + night session, you're inviting the photographer into your environment and allowing them to document the intimate moments that make up your everyday life. Of course there is flexibility on what day + night may mean for each family. From breakfast in pajamas to afternoon playtime, from dinner preparations to bedtime routines, these sessions dig deep into the heart of what make up the rhythm of your home life.
3. You enjoy an element of story to be weaved into your family photography session.
By embracing this style of photography, you'll have a collection of images that not only showcase your family's love and connection but also provides a visual narrative of how you spend your precious time together. These images will serve as cherished memories for years to come, reminding you of the joy, laughter, and love that fills each day (from start to finish) with those closest to you. These sessions truly go beyond posed portraits and instead aim to show a well-rounded day of togetherness, capturing the moments that genuinely define your family's dynamics.
“We did a Day + Night session with Loreal and had such a great experience. She came in the morning and we did our typical “croissants & coffee” outdoor breakfast. The kids played in the pool and ran around like their typical silly selves. Loreal was a sweet addition to our morning and the kids loved her! We were excited to welcome her back in the evening for dinner - a routine that’s really special to us. We really enjoyed the structure of “half and half” especially of the two times of days we enjoy most together as a family. Remembering this summer through the images Loreal created for us means the world to us! We will cherish these so much. We’d highly recommend this experience to other families! You won’t regret it!”

FAQ’s about Day + Night Family Photography
How do you determine the split of your “day”?
Deciding how you’d like your time split is as simple as either two portions on one day or an evening followed by the next morning/day. I find it important to keep the time frames within 24 hours of one another so that the story of your family life is documented in a cohesive manner.
Can these be done outside of our home?
Home tends to be where we create and hold most of our memories, but anywhere that is held dear to the heart of your family is fair game for photographing.
What’s the benefit of this over a consecutive family photo session?
As with everything, certain options are better fits for different families. I have found these sessions lend themselves best to families who are more likely to show their true colors once they’ve had the opportunity to warm up to that extra presence of the photographer (I am always so grateful for the warm welcomes I get upon my return for our second halves). Also this is a great workaround for those who can feel easily overstimulated. It’s almost like that first half is us dipping our toes in the water!
