Sharing the journey of motherhood with your best friend is something truly unparalleled. When you’re both expecting at the same time it’s as if you’ve entered an exclusive club where you can bond over late night cravings, cry together about those weird pregnancy symptoms, and most importantly offer the unique support of someone who understands more closely what the other is going through. This experience is already such a gift in of itself, but for these two mothers we decided to take it to an even deeper level with a joint maternity photoshoot.

As a family photographer, it had long been on my list to find either close friends or sisters who had found themselves pregnant at the same time. I believe dreaming up this concept came as a direct result from experiencing my own first pregnancy alongside two of the women I’m closest with; my sister-in-law gave birth ten days before me and my dear friend just a week before that. There’s such a community found in motherhood so you can only imagine how it deepens + solidifies relationships that you already hold close. I felt so honored to experience this kind of journey and I knew it was something that is worth exploring being documented.

Bringing this photography concept to life with the two mothers pictured below was a wonderful time. They’ve been friends since college and now are both expecting their second child with due dates just three days apart from one another. Documenting such an incredible tie between two friends captures not only the beauty of pregnancy itself but also highlights the strength and joy we as women can gain from our fellow mothers.

Ideally, we all plan for our own littles to grow to be best friends with our best friend’s littles. Assuming that is the way life unfolds… how special will these photos become? Seeing best buds side by side, still in the womb of their mothers. Here we set out to capture beautiful reminders of such an extraordinary time; this best friend maternity photoshoot was overflowing with celebration of friendship and the impending motherhood they’d be journeying into together once more.
