Two Part Maternity Session
Part One: A Modern Approach to Maternity Photos in Studio
Taking time to document those moments of your pregnancy journey is such a gift to yourself. Your body is doing something miraculous and you deserve to have heirlooms from such a special beautifully hard chapter. Opting for a studio session to capture maternity photos is a fantastic option that can easily be overlooked. The biggest perk, in the opinion of this family photographer, is that you gain complete control over the environment. No worrying about weather changes or unexpected distractions (which we often don’t have time for during this changing season) —just you, your growing belly, and a backdrop that lends itself to your vision.
This somewhat modern alternative approach to pregnancy photos is all about embracing simplicity and stripping down to the emotions you’re experiencing on your way to parenthood. Studio settings allow for clean lines and minimalistic aesthetics that can really highlight the beauty of this incredible journey. Think natural lighting, neutral colors, and uncluttered backgrounds that draw attention to you and your growing babe.
Speaking of outfits, minimalistic choices can be incredibly powerful when choosing what to wear for your in studio maternity session. Take inspiration from this couple who opted for white tops paired with classic denim, creating stunning silhouettes while keeping the focus on that sweet bump. So go ahead— peek through part one of this maternity session where their personality shines through in every shot!
Part Two: Stepping Outside for Cozy Downtown Autumn Photos
The second part of our time together we opted to take things outside! The cozy fashion choices felt like a perfect fit for the changing weather as they wait for their winter baby to make his/her arrival. Think soft fabrics and layers that not only highlight your beautiful bump but also keep you comfortable during the shoot.
I love that when shooting at Aspiring Eden Studios it’s just a quick walk around the corner to get these downtown aesthetics that offer a complete alternative look. Indianapolis is a top contender when it comes to architectural intrigue and it just feels like the cherry on top when we’re able to pair it with those fall colors in nature.
Ending our session outside, we decided not to shy away from embracing the full sun! Natural light can work wonders for photography, giving your images a warm and inviting feel; I paired this feeling with the use of direct flash when photographing on film. Feeling the sunset over the city was the perfect end to this lovely time spent with this mom and dad to be!
This was a Fundamental Heirloom session captured on a mix of digital + film (including both 35mm and polaroids). Check out more commonly booked packages with Heartstring Heirlooms here!
