Nine Months with Isla Lucia

Family photos can start with those cozy at home vibes and then move to a favorite nearby location; the best of both worlds!

As a family photographer, it is one of my greatest privileges being invited into your home to document the truth of day to day life that resides within those walls. It’s so wonderfully intimate; leaving every image imbued with extra sentimentality, especially when it's taken in the home that first welcomed your baby and started your journey into parenthood.

A concern I often hear around opting for an in home photo session is worry that your house may not be a proper fit for serving as the backdrop to your family photos. I think that’s a trick our brains play on us. After all, this is where the beauty of your life takes place - the meals shared, the early morning kisses on your sleeping child's head, the homecoming of each day. It all happens here.

If you still have reservations about a full shoot at home or even crave a bit more aesthetic variety then splitting your time may be the sweet spot. That’s what we did with this relaxed family heirloom session. Starting within the comfort of their Indianapolis home then adventuring out to the city’s nearby art museum, Newfields.

Newfields Garden always offers breathtaking backdrops, groomed landscapes and architectural splendor. We enjoyed the summer blooms, warmer weather, and clear skies while strolling the gardens. With digital and film cameras in tow, we took our time amid the tranquility of the museum grounds, ending just below the Lily House. Here the family spread a blanket, cherishing time with their almost 10-month-old daughter. In Grecia’s original inquiry to me she shared that with each day she was realizing just how fleeting time is as a new mother — a sentiment shared by us all. Bringing us to the true purpose of photography; fostering an experience to genuinely soak up the time together, connect in an intentional way, and to feel truly seen while being able to revisit these passing seasons.

This family opted for the Fundamental Heirloom package which includes images captured with 35mm film, polaroid instant film, as well as digitally. It’s a great option for a variety of reasons; time allowing for multiple locations being at the top of that list!
