Making Art + Waiting on Little Brother

A maternity session spent with soon-to-be big brother painting a very special art piece.

I remember the day Kaitlyn shared Otis’ very first art piece via social media. She had it framed and ready to hang in their home when he was just a few months old. (Artistic talent is in his blood.) It was a swirl of blues and greens painted so unique by the hands of a baby. Naturally when we began to plan for her maternity session anticipating the arrival of their second little one; I just knew art had to be at the core of it all.

So buckle up my friends, I was barely able to narrow it down to my top ninety favs from this creative maternity/mother and son photo session. Yes — you read that correctly…. NINETY. They’re all just too exciting, expressive, and heartwarming. Also I definitely had too much fun and documented our time together with no less than four cameras. Half were 35mm film cameras, one professional digital, and one $10 yard sale digital camera. I’ll let you try to decide which images were produced by what!

Kaitlyn + Otis very clearly share a special bond; it was just the best seeing that in action as they teamed up to create a masterpiece. Expressing their creativity and love for one another all at once made for a unique experience. A very sweet morning well spent while he’s not yet having to share mommy. These two will have so much more than just the photos from our time together, they will have all the sweet memories of this day — creating, laughing, and playing together. All worth cherishing for a lifetime!
