A Simple One Roll Film Session
Thirty-six frames from a single roll of film to capture the feeling of spring from their own front yard.
This spring, Jesse decided to have some family photos captured right in her own front yard. With the garden starting to bloom and their little one beginning to grow curiouser and curiouser about the world around her, it felt like the perfect time for a simple, candid session documented in a place familiar to them.
I loaded up a single roll of Kodak Portra 400 film and followed them outside, eager to document these fleeting moments for this sweet trio. Over the course of about an hour, we snapped the thirty-six frames from the roll - catching Lucia smiling in her momma’s arms and then growing tired as bedtime approached and the sun softened behind the horizon. It felt like a small slice of the everyday magic that happens in their little corner of the world.
There's something so special about film photography for moments like these. The process feels more intentional, more connected to the subject. And when those frames come back from the lab, each one is a little gem rediscovered - a tangible memory to hold onto long after the day, and even that particular season of life, has passed.
