Under the Cherry Blossoms

Capturing family photos under the pink + white blooms is a great way to step into Spring!

If you’ve been a long time follower, you likely caught my announcement for Monthly Mailers after reaching a thousand followers on instagram. I’ve never been one to fuss over numbers but I do love any good reason for offering something celebratory! The Monthly Mailers is an email subscription (you can sign up on the home page) where I share a personal project I’d like to create each month. These sessions will always be at heavily discounted rates and sometimes even entirely free! Believe it or not I have a revolving list of about 50+ ideas / family activities that are on my bucket list for documenting!

The first concept I sent into everyone’s inboxes was one in hopes of catching the fleeting blooms known as Cherry Blossoms. I’ve always admired their delicate pink + white flowers and how they’re capable of painting any scene into a more delicate space. Locating these ethereal beauties is no easy feat; luckily I discovered that Indianapolis’ very own White River State Park had been gifted 52 of these magnificent trees and they line the pathway where the canal meets the zoo. Japan’s generous donation was back in 2012 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of blooming cherry blossoms in Washington DC.

These trees only stay in their flower viewing state for about two weeks so timing was important when bringing this idea to life. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a plethora of people flocking under the canopy of cherry blossoms also there to soak in the serene charm. In true midwest spring fashion, it was a windy day with some cooler temps accompanied by plenty of sunshine. We had a great time letting the kids be themselves while admiring nature’s artistry! I loved how much of each kiddo’s personality shined through during our quick photo session.

I hope to capture countless more memories with this stunning backdrop nature has supplied! Somehow the photographs feel all the more special knowing that this space only holds this sight for mere days out of the entire year. I’m so grateful for this sweet crew for collaborating with me on outfit choices, timing, and energy to bring my first Monthly Mailer into bloom!
