Holga Holidays
Putting the medium format Holga camera to the test to capture some of the year’s most joyful moments!
Just three days before Christmas, I found myself spending an afternoon with this festive crew of five. I had been itching to document some holiday moments with my holga medium format film camera; and the results did not disappoint. Holgas are considered “toy cameras” which felt all the more fitting entering into this holly jolly theme. This film camera is known to bring an ethereal and often imperfect final image to life. They tend to allow sporadic light leaks into frame, make it simple to double expose (even if accidentally), and are just overall lots of fun to have in hand!
Megen + Drew’s wedding was the first one I ever photographed, nearly a decade ago, and now I get to document the house they’ve built and filled with boundless love. On this particular day that looked like reading yuletide stories, baking Santa cookies, and reluctantly sharing your nutcracker collection with your younger siblings. The energy in this home was just about tangible, reminding me of that feeling of anticipation as a child in the final countdown til Christmas morning.
As the year approaches its end, I can’t help but feel extra grateful for the many families that allow me to join along in their journeys through all the various seasons and celebrations of life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
Merry Christmas + Happy New Year my friends!
This session was shot on all film; and if seeing this is not convincing enough to persuade you to try an all film session for the holidays, read these three reasons why you really should here!
