Sheba + Jupiter Go To the Park

Pets are beloved members of our families and we can honor that by including them in our family photos.

Pets hold a special place in our hearts and homes, often becoming cherished members of our families. They bring us joy, companionship, and unconditional love. As time passes, it becomes more and more important to capture the bonds we hold with our furry friends through family photography.

When Claire reached out about scheduling her family photo session she shared with me that their two four legged family members were getting on in years, both recently celebrating fourteen years with them. It became clear that these photos we were about to create would only grow more invaluable as time moves forward.

We decided to spend our evening together at a park they frequent during their regular walks. It’s a cozy Indianapolis space inspired by victorian walking paths, complete with a centerpiece fountain. This location allowed the perfect amount of room for Sheba + Jupiter to run free while remaining close enough to capture their playful spirits.

Choosing to include pets in family photos adds an extra layer of authenticity and warmth. It reflects the true essence of our family dynamics and makes for meaningful portraits that will be cherished for years to come. Whether it's a playful moment or a tender embrace, these photographs serve as a reminder of the love and happiness our pets bring into our lives. So here’s your permission to let them be part of the frame as they play an integral role in shaping your family's story. After all, they are not just pets; they are treasured members of the family, deserving a place alongside you in those timeless captures.

This heartfelt candid imagery was captured via a mix of 35mm film + digital photography, polaroids, and super 8 video film. Consider this your subtle reminder to include your four legged family members in your next photo session while you still have that opportunity. If the idea of having them join in feels overwhelming be sure to check out our biggest tips on smoothly making that happen. It’s a lot easier than you probably think, I pinky promise.
