A Summer Evening at the Ranch

A golden hour sunset spent alongside a mother and her toddler daughter with the horses, all captured via 35mm film.

I will never grow tired of documenting the special mother-daughter bond; it’s one that feels beautiful + almost effortlessly deep. As the golden hour light filtered through the trees this specific evening, we stepped out onto the ranch, ready to let the setting inspire us (because lets face it, the horse and the toddler were the bosses here).

With just a single roll of 35mm film, we wandered the property, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. The horse grazed nearby, undisturbed by our quiet presence. It was just the two of them, mom and daughter, basking in each other's company and the beauty of the ranch in the soft summer evening glow.

The resulting photos are a raw, authentic glimpse into their relationship. No excessive posing, no stiff smiles - just a mother who let go of “expectations” of a two year old and basked in the presence of her little girl’s personality filled company and enjoying those moments of connection. It's the kind of thing you can't recreate, only capture as it flows. I think this is yet another reason I love the single roll sessions; you accept the time as it is spent, not forcing specific outcomes or false experiences. You wait in the anticipation of all the wonderful small interactions that present themselves in their own time, and then you click to capture it + cherish it.
